Business and Professional Women's Young Careerist 2012
Business and Professional Women (BPW) was founded in 1919 to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information. Every Spring are the Annual State Conferences, which take place nationwide. An important and exciting part of each event is the Young Careerist competition. Woman business owners and careerists, between age 21 and 35, are encouraged to apply to their Local and, if chosen, compete at the State Conference. Laurie Hamilton was selected to represent the Renton Local this year and was named the Washington State Young Careerist 2012. She is pictured here with Lily Ledbetter, the keynote speaker of the event and an incredible, humble human being. Laurie highly recommends participating in this life-changing program.

Meet Young Careerist, Laurie Hamilton
In 1964 Virginia Allen was the national president of BPW. She founded the Young Careerist (YC) Program to recognize the professional, personal and political achievements of young professionals. The YC Program is about mentoring, building self-esteem and confidence. It is about giving recognition, acceptance and celebration to all participants. Many have gone on to demonstrate outstanding leadership in the community. Participants compete to represent BPW on the local and state level. After several years of not participating, the Renton Local elected to revive the program in 2011.
Lisa Fischer, Irene Roberts and Laurel Winston are the Renton BPW members that comprised the support team for the Renton YC candidate. Under their many months of guidance Laurie Hamilton was selected and groomed as the Renton BPW YC candidate. She went on to become the YC candidate selected to represent Washington State BPW for 2012-2013. Competition included an extensive interview that focused on work life, family balance, and the candidate’s knowledge of Washington State BPW, its programs, advocacy issues and legislative platform. The candidate also presented a written essay supporting legislation for judges’ evaluation. The final presentation was a 4-minute speech at the state conference. Laurie selected the topic, "What can BPW do to help eliminate domestic abuse?." Her presentation was emotional, thought provoking and gave a call to action to all BPW members.
As an outdoor enthusiast, Laurie feels blessed to have grown up in the Pacific Northwest with so many forests, mountains and beaches to explore. This experience has contributed to her choices to proactively protect the body and skin. Her business, At One Wellness, proclaims, "Nurture Your Inner Nature!” and carries out the theme of health and wellness. Laurie attended Brian Uttings School of Massage in 2004-2005 and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2006. She recently completed her Reiki certification. Her professional mission is to educate, empower and equip others through a variety of coaching and wellness services. She is committed to learning and teaching nutrition and wellness as a life-long and life-enhancing practice.
Congratulations Young Careerist, Laurie Hamilton!
